“Patience and discipline will take you much further than aggressive trading.”
What happens when you stop relying on intuition and start relying on a strict, rule-based system? In this Q&A, Vincent, Ergis, and Nicolas explain how they eliminated the factor of luck from their trading. Discover why waiting for A+ setups, accepting losses, and treating the FTMO Challenge like a real account were the ultimate keys to their success.
Trader Vincent Nyamwembe: “I trade only A+ setups.”

How did you manage your emotions when you were in a losing trade?
I accepted that losses are part of trading. Instead of reacting emotionally, I trusted my analysis, followed my risk management rules, and focused on executing my plan rather than trying to recover losses immediately.
Do you have a trading plan in place, and do you follow it strictly?
Yes. I trade only A+ setups, risk a fixed percentage per trade, avoid overtrading, and stick to predefined entry, Stop Loss, and Take Profit levels. My goal is consistency, not chasing profits.

What was more difficult than expected during your FTMO Challenge or Verification?
The biggest challenge was maintaining discipline after small mistakes. I learned that patience, emotional control, and waiting for high-quality setups are more important than trying to trade every opportunity.
What do you think is the key to long-term success in trading?
Consistent risk management, emotional discipline, continuous learning, and following a proven trading plan without letting emotions influence decisions.
How would you rate your experience with FTMO?
Excellent. The Evaluation Process encouraged discipline, proper risk management, and professional trading habits while providing a realistic path to becoming a funded trader.
One piece of advice for people starting the FTMO Challenge now.
Focus on protecting your capital rather than chasing the profit. Be patient, trade only your best setups, and let consistency – not emotions – carry you through the evaluation. ones. Consistency and discipline will take you much further than chasing profits.
Trader Ergis: “Treat the FTMO Challenge like a real funded account.”

How did you eliminate the factor of luck in your trading?
I stopped relying on intuition and focused on a rule-based trading plan. Every trade had to meet my predefined criteria regarding market structure, reward-to-risk ratio, and confirmation signals. I also tracked every trade in a journal and reviewed my performance regularly. Over time, consistency replaced luck.
How did you manage your emotions when you were in a losing trade?
I accepted that losses are a normal part of trading. Since I always risk only a small percentage of my account, I never felt the need to interfere with my trades emotionally. Trusting my strategy and following my risk management rules helped me remain calm and disciplined.

How has passing the FTMO Challenge and Verification changed your life?
Passing the FTMO Challenge gave me confidence that I could trade professionally while following strict risk management. It also provided access to larger capital, allowing me to focus more on consistency rather than account size. It was an important milestone in my trading journey.
What was more difficult than expected during your FTMO Challenge or Verification?
The most challenging part was staying patient and avoiding unnecessary trades. There were days when the best decision was not to trade at all. Maintaining discipline and respecting the trading rules every single day required more mental strength than I initially expected.
How would you rate your experience with FTMO?
My experience with FTMO has been excellent. The Evaluation Process is transparent, the trading conditions are fair, and the support team has always been professional and responsive. The FTMO Challenge encouraged me to improve my discipline and become a more consistent trader.
What would you like to say to other traders who are attempting the FTMO Challenge?
Focus on consistency instead of trying to hit the profit target as quickly as possible. Treat the FTMO Challenge like a real funded account, follow your trading plan, respect your risk management, and don’t let emotions dictate your decisions. If your strategy has an edge, patience and discipline will take you much further than aggressive trading.
Trader Nicolas: “I rely on probabilities and consistency rather than luck.”

What does your risk management plan look like?
Risk management is one of the most important parts of my trading. I define my risk before entering a trade and always use a Stop Loss. I focus on high-quality setups with a favourable reward-to-risk ratio, usually at least 3:1. I prefer waiting patiently for my setup rather than increasing my exposure or forcing trades. My main objective is always to protect my capital first.
How did Maximum Loss limits affect your trading style?
The Maximum Loss limits helped me become more selective and disciplined. Instead of focusing on how much I could make, I started focusing more on how much I was willing to lose. It encouraged me to wait for my best setups, control my position size, and avoid unnecessary trades.

Describe your best trade.
My best trade was the trade that allowed me to complete the first phase of my FTMO Challenge. It was not necessarily my biggest trade financially, but it represented everything I had been working on: patience, discipline, and execution. I waited for my setup, followed my trading plan, and let the market come to me instead of chasing the price. That trade was especially meaningful because it completed a very consistent first phase for me.
How would you rate your experience with FTMO?
My experience with FTMO has been very positive. The Challenge pushed me to take risk management and discipline even more seriously. I also appreciate the clear rules and professional trading environment. It has helped me focus less on individual trades and more on consistency over time.
How did you eliminate the factor of luck in your trading?
I don’t think luck can ever be completely removed from an individual trade because we cannot control the market. What we can control is our process. I developed a very specific setup with clear conditions for entry, Stop Loss, and targets. By repeating the same process and only taking trades that meet my criteria, I rely on probabilities and consistency rather than luck.
What is the number one advice you would give to a new trader?
My number one advice would be: don’t try to trade everything. Find one setup that you truly understand, study it deeply, and learn to wait for it. You don’t need to be in the market all the time. Patience, risk management, and discipline are much more important than the number of trades you take.
