FTMO Traders Q&A

“Consistency is essential for long term success in trading”

The road to profitable trading is full of obstacles that every serious trader must take into account. Achieving consistent results in such an environment is not easy and only the best can do it. This would include our new FTMO Traders Worawong, Messi Kayembe and David Philip.

Trader Worawong: “Always have a mental preparation for the worst possible loss willingly.”

What was the most difficult during your FTMO Challenge or Verification and how did you overcome it?

The most difficulty in trading is to remind myself every time before I make my trading decision what/whom I am trading for. There are people I wish to save, and trading is the key that allows me to financially do so. Making emotional decisions may not only cause me to lose the account but to lose the only a few chances of saving people I love.

How has passing the FTMO Challenge and Verification changed your life?

Not only my life will change, but people around me will too. I spent years serving people’s dreams and business, being an FTMO trader will enable me to finally serve myself, buying myself time, earning anywhere and anytime for myself and people I love.

What was more difficult than expected during your FTMO Challenge or Verification?

Having to lose a chance to save someone dear to me is at stake if I fail. And forgiving myself for all trading mistakes I’ve made in the past by becoming a successful and better trader than my past self.

What do you think is the most important characteristic/attribute to become a profitable trader?

Risk only what I can afford to lose, and never risk losing what I cannot afford. Always have a mental preparation for the worst possible loss willingly.

Has your psychology ever affected your trading plan?

7 years ago, yes, but never again. I use my emotion at will, not the other way around. If you don’t master your emotion, it will master you.

What is the number one advice you would give to a new trader?

Profit and loss are both temporary, learn new lessons every time they come by, then allow yourself to let them go.

Trader Messi Kayembe: “Trading is a game of probability, not a get rich quick scheme.”

What do you think is the key for long term success in trading?

Consistency is essential for long term success in trading, it’s about sticking to your strategy and managing emotions.

What inspires you to pursue trading?

The financial freedom that comes with it.

How would you rate your experience with FTMO?

I would recommend traders to go FTMO with no doubts. It’s a stress-free prop firm to work with. I would rate it 10/10.

What was more difficult than expected during your FTMO Challenge or Verification?

I didn’t have difficulties on my challenge, but on my verification, I followed my trading plan as usual, but it was that thing of Stop Loss hunt then the market goes into the expected direction, I had to just keep a good risk management and emotions stable.

How does your risk management plan look like?

I risk 2% per trade when I have an A+ setup, and in case of a loss, whenever my account is negative, I lower my risk to 1% per trade, until I recover my losses and have my account positive. I basically go for a 1:2 RRR.

One piece of advice for people starting the FTMO Challenge now.

I would advise new people starting the FTMO Challenge to first focus on understanding the rules of prop firm which is very important, they should have their own set of rules, target, risk reward, focusing on high quality trades only and they should embrace loses and learn from it instead of overtrading which mostly lead to breaching rules. They should think long term instead. Trading is a game of probability, not a get rich quick scheme.

Trader David Philip: “There’s zero luck in trading, only bad trades.”

What do you think is the key for long term success in trading?

Patience and risk management is crucial, too many times have I blown challenges over risking and over leveraging. Not taking my time and wanting to pass a challenge asap. I took a break, and it made me realize slow and steady wins the race.

Describe your best trade.

Gold on the 15min timeframe. Waiting for a 15min BOS, waiting for the retest on a 15 min OB. 1 min BOS an entry on the OB. Or either an EURGBP, GBPUSD or EURUSD trade in London session, looking for an Asia fill on a 15 min timeframe with a BOS on a 1 min timeframe, retest and entry on the OB.

How has passing the FTMO Challenge and Verification changed your life?

It hasn’t changed anything, ask me this question in 6-12 months and see what my answer will be.

What was easier than expected during the FTMO Challenge or Verification?

Nothing was easier than expected, hard as ever before, I need to be patient and close my losses before I blew my daily limit, reevaluate and come back the next day.

How did you eliminate the factor of luck in your trading?

There’s zero luck in trading, only bad trades. I’ve found a strategy, the hardest part is sitting on your hands, waiting for your confluences to come into play and entering the trade.

What would you like to say to other traders that are attempting the FTMO Challenge?

Try, try, try and try again! And if that doesn’t work, try again!!!
