Trader Ian from the United Kingdom

What inspires you to pursue trading?

Once I have a good strategy, which makes sense, and easy to understand, trading becomes enjoyable. I love the flexibility of life it offers, and being able to make a good income working from home.

Describe your best trade.

There have been several however I recorded USDJPY entry at 113.309 , and adding along the way 110.801, and 108.582 to close all at 107.034 with 1151 pips with 2 % risk traded back in January 2019.

What was the most difficult during your Challenge or Verification and how did you overcome it?

The Challenge, it took me 3 attempts to pass. Trying to get the 1st trade to win, and the anxious of several losing trades. With being on a time restraint, was a bit difficult , especially as I am a swing trader.

Where have you learnt about FTMO?

I was a funded trader at Jarratt Davis and when they ceased their funded trader, they introduced FTMO.

Has your psychology ever affected your trading plan?

Fear and Greed, has been a problem, however, through a well-defined trading strategy, I have been able to trade without being affected too much with psychology.

One piece of advice for people starting the Challenge now.

Don’t rush in to execute your first trade, as then the count down begins on the first trade. Be sure of strategy, well tested by your self, use the demo facility available.

Trader Jeshua plans to take more Challenges in the future

How did you manage your emotions when you were in a losing trade?

I’ve spent time working on not having emotional attachment to wins or losses. A loss is a loss, just a percentage which I’ll make back again.

What was the most difficult during your Challenge or Verification and how did you overcome it?

To no jump into too many trades at a time. I’ve taught myself not to open more than 3 active trades a day.

How would you rate your experience with FTMO?

It’s been great, this is not my first Challenge I’ve done. But definitely not the last!

What was more difficult than expected during your Challenge or Verification?

I’ve trained myself to this moment so everything went as expected. Cannot say something packed out differently than expected.

What do you think is the most important characteristic/attribute to become a profitable trader?

Have faith in your strategy, use correct risk management and learn to sit on your hands.

What would you like to say to other traders that are attempting the Challenge?

Start with the trial! If you somehow fail that, open a demo account and practice, practice and practice!

Trader Jeffrey describes his risk management

How did you eliminate the factor of luck in your trading?

I pretty much eliminated luck by sticking to risk 0.5% per trade. In all my trades I was most concerned about what I stand to risk than the gains.

What was easier than expected during the Challenge or Verification?

Psychology! This is a huge topic for me. But it was surprising that I didn’t have any issue with over trading, I was so relaxed.

How did you manage your emotions when you were in a losing trade?

When I’m in a losing trade like up to 2% I close for the day. Nature has a way of clearing things off my memory. So, the next day, I start out as a fresh trader, not trying to recover loses but wanting secure and protect my trading capital

What inspires you to pursue trading?

The journey has been tough but, the word of God has inspired me a lot Thank You Jesus! And also the idea that I can be financially free, work from anywhere around the world with no Scholastic certificate.

How does your risk management plan look like?

What I do is to risk 0.5% on my first trade placed, then add more position once I Break-even and then I’ll scale the lot *2 of my initial trade placed. Such that my first trade would be a risk free trade and the new trade would rely on the equity from the first trade placed. But all in all, I don’t allow more than 3 trades to run at at time, except they are all risk free trade(Break-even).

What is the number one advice you would give to a new trader?

FTMO challenge is very ACHIEVABLE in all honesty, what you need to work on is less of trading strategy and more of Money Management and Risk Management! sit down, figure out the above and you’ll definitely be profitable in the long run.

Trader Jonathan from the USA

What was more difficult than expected during your Challenge or Verification?

I would say the Challenge was more difficult for me because it made me adjust my risk in a way where I wasn’t nominally accustomed before and so it really helped humble me in managing risk. I can now say confidently that I look at the markets in a much more professional approach.

What was easier than expected during the Challenge or Verification?

I would say the Verification was easier in that it was less pressure on myself. The eased objectives really made it more laidback and was just a confirmation of my skills put to the Challenge.

Do you plan to take another FTMO Challenge to manage even bigger capital?

Yes absolutely. That’s the goal.

Do you have a trading plan in place, and do you follow it strictly?

Yes I do. It is essential to have one in place to keep myself in check and to trade consistently.

What was the most difficult during your Challenge or Verification and how did you overcome it?

Understanding that I’m a money manager first before anything else. I overcame it by having a clear plan of how much I was willing to lose on a single trade or day and sticking with it as I progressed.

One piece of advice for people starting the Challenge now.

Be patient. Don’t rush things by over-leveraging. Take your time. Be disciplined and focused. Have a solid strategy in place and apply risk management.
